"Dear Elizabeth... I wanted to share a story with you that I thought you would appreciate. My son and I were at the Children's Museum. He was very shy and not interacting or doing much at all. That all changed when we got to the music/dance area. When he saw the scarves he immediately went to them and began his own scarf dance. A couple of other kids joined in as well. He spent some time in there and when we went on to other exhibits he was like a different kid! He was playing, exploring, and jabbering away! He had only attended a few music classes at the time, but I know this connection to music gave him confidence in an obviously stressful situation for him. There were other things that he was quite familiar with, like the basketball court, but the music was something he related to without having to interact with anyone else; it was something within him. I have been struggling to figure out why the music is what "set him free," and I think that's it - it allowed him to get comfortable with the situation at his own pace, and work it out on his own.
